handle on one side that automatically extends when I start to pull the tool box on its wheels.\u00a0 Another handle and the wheels are located on the other side.\u00a0 The handles allow two people to lift the tool box from the truck bed and set it down, and the wheels allow one person to pull it to wherever the tool box will be used.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" inches deep.\u00a0 While they don\u2019t connect to each other, they do have grooves on the bottom to keep them in place.<\/p>\n<h3>Assembly, Installation, Setup<\/h3>\n<p>The Makita toolboxes and organizers all come pre-assembled.\u00a0 The only thing I had to do was remove them from the box.<\/p>\n<h3>Performance<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" bigger than they look on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/b\/Featured-Products-MAKITA-MAKTRAK-THE-NEXT-GENERATION-IN-MODULAR-STORAGE-SYSTEMS\/N-5yc1vZ2fkpfhf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Home Depot\u2019s website<\/a>.\u00a0 Two, they are quite heavy.\u00a0 These are not the little tool boxes of yore.\u00a0 Three, they feel very strong and durable; I expect they will last for a long time, even when taking the wear-and-tear from heavy use.<\/p>\n<p>Most tool box systems, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homedepot.com\/p\/RIDGID-Pro-Gear-System-Gen-2-0-Stackable-Rolling-Tool-Box-22-in-Heavy-Duty-Tool-Box-Compact-Tool-Box-and-Compact-Organizer-254065-254067-254069-254071\/322018733\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this one from Ridgid<\/a>, are vertical in their design.\u00a0 The Maktrak\u2019s horizontal design is an improvement for two reasons.\u00a0 <strong>One<\/strong>, it\u2019s easier to find tools and supplies in a shallower tool box.\u00a0 <strong>Two<\/strong>, it will be easier to store in a pickup, especially one with a bed cap, or an SUV.\u00a0 The whole set can be lifted up and slid into the back without any need to take them apart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-473513\" src=\"https:\/\/the-gadgeteer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/makita-maktrak-10-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"makita maktrak 10\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" system.\u00a0 Having a mobile tool box is important for two reasons.\u00a0 One, there are always times when a worker can\u2019t park right next to the job location, and it\u2019s much easier to wheel the tools back and forth to the truck instead of carrying them.\u00a0 Two, large job sites can have personnel from several companies all working at the same time.\u00a0 Tools left alone tend to \u201cwalk away,\u201d so being able to easily pull the tool chest from room-to-room is important.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" and lift the tool box without a second person.\u00a0 The handle can be pushed into the base of the rolling tool chest when the chest is on the ground, which will prevent people from tripping over it.\u00a0 It automatically extends when I lift it up and begin to pull the tool chest along.\u00a0 The handle is the only part of this system that I would change:\u00a0 I\u2019m not a fan of the way that it slides in and out on its own, so I wish I could manually lock it into position at different lengths.\u00a0 It\u2019s not a dealbreaker, just a small quality-of-life adjustment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-473519\" rolling tool chest using Makita\u2019s track system, a set of corresponding grooves that allow one component to connect to another.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" tool box have latches on both sides, and they can be removed completely.\u00a0 When fully extended, the lids open to a generous just-past-90-degrees, so I\u2019m not sure how often this will be needed on the job site.\u00a0 At the very least, this feature will be handy when it\u2019s time to wash the tool boxes out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-473523\" src=\"https:\/\/the-gadgeteer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/makita-maktrak-19-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"makita maktrak 19\" (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Electricians, like all professions, has a plethora of smaller supplies that are necessary for the job, things like nuts and bolts, screws, wires, fuses, and switches.\u00a0 The medium organizer is the perfect home for all of these things.\u00a0 The containers just sit inside the organizer, and they can be picked up and used wherever they are needed.\u00a0 There\u2019s a notch cut into each of the organizers that makes it look like they can be latched together, but Makita didn\u2019t include any clips for this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-473524\" src=\"https:\/\/the-gadgeteer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/makita-maktrak-20-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"makita maktrak 20\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" rubber gasket.\u00a0 It creates a seal to keep moisture and dirt out when the lid is closed. \u00a0To test the gasket, I put the entire setup outside during a light rain. \u00a0I found that the gaskets worked perfectly, and there was no moisture on the interior of the components. \u00a0Of course, moisture will inevitably find its way into tool boxes when the lids are open, and the result is that tools begin to rust.\u00a0 One hint for reducing this problem is to save the little moisture absorbing gel packs that you get in products like shoe boxes and purses and toss them into the tool box.\u00a0 The more the merrier.
